Aluminium is resistant to air and water. When freshly cut open, it reacts with these substances - i.e. air and water - to form aluminium oxide. However, this immediately forms a thin, impermeable layer and thus effectively protects against corrosion. Because of its high thermal and electrical conductivity, aluminium is used for lightweight cables and heat exchangers. And because of its low density, aluminium is used wherever mass has to be moved, e.g. in vehicle construction, space and aviation, etc.

In everyday life, "aluminium foil" performs well due to its thermal properties.
