Electrolyte
Electrolyte is the generic term for electrical conductors whose conductivity is first established by electrolytic dissociation into ions.
Mostly, electrolytes are aqueous solutions of bases, salts or acids; but some solids and molten salts can also be included.
Substances that form ions only by chemical reaction with water are also called electrolytes.
The best-known example of this is hydrogen chloride.
