Gold

Gold is a very durable precious metal. This refers not only to the value of gold, but also to its resistance to almost all gases, acids, alkalis, salts and alkaline substances. Another important property of gold is that it is resistant to corrosion by the atmosphere and water.

In electronics and other industries, the high conductivity of this precious metal is especially regarded. Gold is used as a technically functional surface as well as for a decorative finish. In order to protect a gold-plated surface, which must guarantee a certain abrasion protection, it is advisable to apply a clear lacquer coat. In general, only very small coatings of approx. 0.05 - 0.5 µm are deposited for cost reasons.

Although gold surfaces are more expensive than unpainted brass surfaces, they offer protection against discoloration and do not always have to be protected by an additional coating of paint, e.g. for furniture, lighting components or other consumer goods that are only exposed to the house climate. 

Gold-nickel and gold-cobalt coating systems are used in technical and decorative applications. While gold-nickel surfaces tend to have yellow-golden hues, gold-cobalt coatings tend towards rose-gold. In any case, gold is a real eye-catcher and a special finish - both in bright finishes and in matte looks.
