Plasma CVD
This makes it possible to produce coatings that are only a few micrometers thick. This is done by plasma chemical reactions (chemical vapor deposition) starting from liquid vapors or from vaporizable solids. These layers can consist, for example, of the elements Ti, Al, C, N, O, either individually or in combination. Combination with some plasma diffusion and plasma heat treatment processes can also be realized.
The process improves corrosion protection and prevents premature wear. It is particularly important for aircraft construction, toolmaking and vehicle manufacturing; it is also frequently used in mechanical engineering - wherever steel components are needed that have to withstand even the greatest stresses.
A typical parameter window:
Pressure: 0.1 to 500 Pa
Temperature: 100 to 600 degrees Celsius
Treatment time: in minutes to hours
Plasma excitation: Pulsed direct current (Khz), alternating current in medium frequency (Khz), high frequency (Mhz) or by microwaves (GHz).
